Jagannath Rath Yatra taken out

Times Of India: KANPUR: The members of Shree Shani Dev Mandir Seva Samiti and the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) temple took out Jagannath Rath Yatra from Fazalganj on Tuesday. Amid chants of 'Jai Jagannath' and Hare Rama, Hare Krishna', Lord Jagannath, Lord Balram and Devi Subhadra were seated on chariot to for grand journey in various areas of the city.

The chariot, which was decorated beautifully with flowers and ribbons, began its journey from Shani Temple in Fazalganj.

The yatra moved throughout the main roads of Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, Kakadeo, Gumti and nearby areas. There were bands, children in traditional dress, bhajan mandalis on horse carts and chariots.


Youth in costumes portraying various scenes from mythology and ISKCON devotees from all across the city were engaged in 'Harinam Sankirtan'. Prasad was distributed at the end of Yatra after which the lords were re-placed to their places in their respective temples. People from all walks of life took part in the yatra.

"I feel fortunate to participate in the yatra," said a devotee.
"I feel ecstatic when I pulled the rope of the rath. The rath has to be pulled with bhav (devotion). It is like drawing the Lord into our hearts," said another a devotee.
