ISKCON devotee accuses Vrindavan sadhu Nitai Das of harassing her

Times Of India: Mathura: An Iskcon devotee of Italian origin has filed a police complaint against a sadhu for allegedly harassing her and making lewd gestures.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manzil Saini has ordered an inquiry and filing of a case against the sadhu, identified as Nitai Das by the woman. In her complaint, she alleged that he has been harassing her for a long time.

Saini told TOI that the woman from Vrindavan, who is in her late 60s, had met her to lodge a written complaint against a person living in her neighborhood in Chaitanya Vihar. Following this, the Vrindavan Chowki in charge was asked to act and ensure her safety.

The woman who originally hails from Italy is now an Indian citizen. She has been living in Vrindavan for the past 40 years. She accused Nitai Das of harassing her and making obscene gestures.

In her complaint, she claimed that on October 15, Das tried to pull her sari when she was going to the Iskcon temple with her friend. She complained at the local thana but to no avail. "In fact, after learning about the complaint at the local thana, the sadhu became more rude and abusive," she added.

She said the sadhu would often threaten her and expose himself in front of her. He had even threatened an acid attack on her, she stated in her complaint.

In recent years, there have been many cases of attacks and harassment of foreign devotees who are members of Iskcon and have been living in the holy town for a number of years.

The Sri Krishna bhakts from abroad alleged insensitivity and callous indifference on the part of the security personnel. Vrindavan is now an important religious centre drawing Sri Krishna devotees from not only India but also from several countries in Europe and America.
