Russia’s only Hindu temple faces threat of demolition

The Indian ambassador to Russia has asked the
Moscow authorities to give an extension to
a temporary temple which is set to expire on
December 31, 2012, until they complete the
construction of a Vedic cultural centre.
THE TIMES OF INDIA: A year after Russia sought to ban the Bhagavad Gita, the Iskcon Krishna temple in Moscow is facing closure by the Russian government. By January 15, 2013, Iskcon monks said their Moscow temple, the only Hindu temple in Russia, would be demolished by the city authorities.

As Russian President Vladimir Putin arrives on Monday for a day of talks with the Indian government, the temple issue is likely to figure in the discussions, not least because the issue has been pursued by the foreign ministry.

Indian ambassador to Russia Ajai Malhotra has asked the Moscow authorities to give an extension to a temporary temple which is set to expire on December 31, 2012, until they complete the construction of a Vedic cultural centre. Asked about the proposed demolition, Russian ambassador to India Alexander Kadakin dismissed fears of demolition.

However, Iskcon monk Madanmohan Das said the demolition order has not been revoked, so the temple is due to come down in January, because the authorities said it "violates the urban building code" and has no legal grounds for existence.

In a statement, the temple officials said they feared that even the permanent temple would face the axe. "A source in the Moscow mayor's office said on condition of anonymity that Mayor Sergey Sobyanin also ordered to axe the permanent temple project, which Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit and previous Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov had included in a joint declaration in 2006 as a symbol of cultural cooperation between the cities. Following the declaration, Indian ambassador Ajai Malhotra laid the cornerstone for the new project earlier this year," the statement said.

This year, Russia plans to push for land from the Indian government for a Russian orthodox church in Delhi. In 2004, Moscow's Iskcon temple was demolished and the Iskcon group was offered another plot to build a temple. Reports said the offer was withdrawn after Russian orthodox church members protested against the temple building plans.

Last year's Bhagavad Gita trial had brought Lok Sabha to its feet and in a rare move, Parliament had collectively asked Russia to prevent the ban. The latest issue of demolition promises to put another wrinkle in the bilateral relations.

The Collective Cover-ups of ISKCON

We have heard and read about the violent abuse of our children and subsequent cover-up within ISKCON on the level of individuals and the collective Institution as a whole. In this essay I would like to focus on the collective cover-ups. The Abuse and its Cover Up is only one topic; however the same principle can be applied to a wide arrays of issues, topics and discussions that are currently taking place within the movement.
Bearing in mind the psychological immaturity of ISKCON as a group, we shall be examining aspects of both crimes in ISKCON, the abuse itself and their cover-ups. The two crimes are quite interwoven. Although the COVER-UPS may seem less atrocious than the atrocities, they are the other side of the same coin. How is it that so many individuals could have participated in such monstrous evil, without any of them being conscience-stricken as to be compelled to stop the abuse or come forward, to speak up and deal with the serious situation in a mature and responsible manner?
The cover-up was/is a gigantic lie. As with any lie, the primary motive of the cover-up was/is fear. The individuals who committed the crimes - who had sexually molested and/or violently physically and/or emotionally abused the children - obviously had reason to fear their actions and the repercussions that will be implemented if their abuse of children is ever found out.
What about the large number of "senior" devotees holding responsible positions, like Braja Bihari, Bhurijana, Sesa, Radhanatha Swami, Matsya Avatara, Bhadrinarayana, etc., who knew about the violent abuse yet neither said nor did anything (besides protect the abusers) about such rather demoniac, dark and evil acts? What did they have to fear?
Their public (whitewash) statements are only a form of justification, e.g., "We did not know”; "We did nothing wrong”; "We were only protecting the good name of Srila Prabhupada and this movement”; "We are devotees so we have to forgive them”; "We were under great pressure”; and "We did what we thought is best for us, the elite… oops… we meant… ISKCON”.
Of course this sounds very naïve and innocent, but in reality it is all a meticulously planned façade which hides their true intent.
The real issue was/is twofold; primarily, fear was brought upon them by the systematically applied pressure from their good old jolly ‘abuser friends’ and their supporters as a cohesive group that they themselves were/are an integral part of. Their secondary fear was the fear of loosing their status/position (their piece of the pie) within this elite group, who has hijacked the movement, as explained to us in detail by Govinda prabhu in his letters entitled, "Shadow ISKCON Or True ISKCON? Take Your Pick" and "Form vs. Substance".
Anyone who understands the nature of group pressure will realize that for a member of an Institution such as ISKCON to report a crime would/will require great courage. The conscious and systematic misuse of the philosophy of "don’t rock the boat” and "leave it up to Krsna”, etc. are deeply pervasive.
In a group dynamic, whoever rocks the boat by speaking up against a criminal act by another member will be labeled a "demon”, "offender”, "squealer”, or "rat.” That will surely lead to their excommunication or at the very least, to being ostracized by the particular group. For a regular person this does not seem like a horrible fate. If you get kicked out of one group, you can just join another.
In ISKCON it is complicated by the fact that Srila Prabhupada has given us the ultimate form of Krsna Consciousness and we have dedicated our lives to serving him in his movement. However, through the misuse of philosophy by these power elites, we have been nicely indoctrinated that we must never question or "criticize” ISKCON and its "exalted ones” (and their friends), for if you do so, well, we all know what that means…
Your spiritual life as you know it is finished. They make you believe that you will destroy your devotional creeper, committing Vaisnava aparadha by criticizing this 'shadow' movement and its members, which will definitely lead to your spiritual suicide.
He who is noble and truthful will remain noble and truthful in all times places and circumstances. A ‘fair weather friend’ may not be so truthful and noble when the chips are down. The thoroughly honest and good are they, who in times of pressure and great stress, do not desert their truthfulness, honesty, integrity, maturity and sensitivity.
If individuals are truly ‘good’ then they possess the capacity to uphold the truth and the ability to remain noble. They don’t "regress” under pressure to a state of denial, where they hide from painful thoughts and the negative repercussions from whatever they are facing, and take a subservient role to the group and conform to its expected norms.
A noble and truthful person can tolerate whatever they face no matter how agonizing it may be, and retain their integrity and purity of purpose.
When a person enters into a group they automatically assume a role within that group. All groups have certain ‘pecking orders’. That is, leaders and followers. In some groups the leaders are voted-in, others take the position or they assume the position due to their natural qualities. The rest fall into place behind the appointed leader.
What happens next is rather strange. The followers automatically assume a subservient role and all of a sudden lose their independent intelligence. They adopt a herd mentality as willing participants. This group dynamic is present in all spheres of human and animal life. This herd mentality is especially dangerous when the leaders lead their followers into danger.
The members of the herd sensing danger and confusion begin to regress as they try to come to terms with their plight. Most go into a state of shock, denial, and become silent (the head goes into the sand).
This creates a serious problem, especially in ISKCON, which is supposed to be a Braminical Movement based on Brahminical culture. A Brahman is by definition a spiritual leader (head) of society. In other words, each member of ISKCON is meant to be a spiritual leader/preacher and as a whole, the movement is here to provide spiritual guidance to humanity at large. When individuals cease to think for themselves, due to their leaders disallowing independent thought, they lose their ability to discriminate in the process and become unable to perform brahminically.
The situation of regression into a herd mentality in ISKCON is far worse because the leaders were not elected by the general devotees, nor were they afforded the position due to their qualities (adhikara). They assumed the position by assertion and self-proclamation.
They formed the ISKCON elite, clothed in the sannyasi garb, symbol of authority, and/or in the position of ‘guru’ or GBC, which creates an illusion of control that their followers believe is what qualifies them as advanced souls and leaders. Obedience and blind following is the number one pre-requisite for a disciple. The dependency of the rank and file devotees on his leaders is not simply encouraged - it is demanded and mandated.
This group organism functions as a single unhealthy entity with a Collective Consciousness. In ISKCON’s case, this organism is like a parasite. Rather than serving, it in fact feeds on Srila Prabhupada’s body (original ISKCON). This entity can be said to possess a ‘willful ignorance’ or a determination with an unscrupulous plan to break from their original/true purpose.
The most primal attribute of a group or individual is pride. The pride of the Shadow ISKCON-ites is wonderful to witness. This Shadow ISKCON believes that they are the only true representatives of Srila Prabhupada and they want everyone else to believe this as well. They want us to believe that they have the most intimate understanding of the ‘Absolute Truth’; hence their decisions are irrevocably unquestionable.
If someone within the group develops the strength to question the actions of the elite leadership, the elite initiates a defensive action that is termed ‘enemy creation’ -- hatred of the individuals/groups that are raising the questions and are consequently branded as ‘out group.’ In this way the ‘Us vs. Them’ mentality comes into play.
Cliques begin to form within the group. People take sides. Those who do not belong and/or unquestionably follow the elite group "clique” are despised as being inferior, troublemakers, offenders, demons, etc.
If one is to study the sociological structure of ISKCON one will find that besides the elite group, there are large numbers of unhealthy subgroups/cliques within the institution. These subgroups attempt to copy the elite group with the same delusional and narcissistic superiority complex. (Chowpatty temple, Hungarian farm, etc.)
(Note: the true ISKCON is the actual body of devotees, most of whom are not followers of the elite group [shadow ISKCON] or the subgroups. These devotees may also be branded as fringies, and so on. Even though they no longer participate in the unhealthy shadow ISKCON, they remain loyal and true to Srila Prabhupada and his teachings.)
It is common knowledge that the best way to cement group cohesiveness is to stir the group’s hatred of an external enemy. The external enemies in this case are former gurukula students and other devotees as such, who dare to speak up and ask that the individuals responsible for the abuses and their protectors be dealt with appropriately. The outspoken are labeled as demons, for in the eyes of the power elite, those who question them are attacking Srila Prabhupada directly and want to destroy the movement. Hence, deficiencies and shortcomings within the elite group/clique can be easily and painlessly downplayed, overlooked and neglected by focusing on the ‘sins’ of the out-group.
From this it should be obvious that the parasitic elite group/clique is the one likely to behave most demonically. An exposure of their failure wounds their pride, and it is the wounded animal that is the most dangerous and vicious.
In the healthy organism, failure will be stimulus to critical self-examination. However, as a demoniac individual cannot tolerate self-criticism, it is in time of failure that he or she inevitably lashes out, one way or other. Similarly it is so with unhealthy groups. Failure of the group and the stimulation of group self-criticism poses to damage the group’s pride and threatens its cohesiveness, which is unacceptable for the ISKCON elite group leadership. It undermines their DIVINITY, which is the foundation for their total and unquestionable control.
Group leaders in all places and times have therefore routinely bolstered group cohesiveness in times of their failure by whipping the group’s hatred for the "enemy.” ISKCON is no exception. To this day, former gurukula students and other devotees who bring important and vital issues to the attention of our "leaders” in the attempt to address the problems responsibly are getting labeled as "enemies.” These critical offenders are being unceremoniously ignored, expelled, ostracized and demonized.
The problems and issues however, are still here and will remain here till the ‘elite’ leaders of ISKCON acknowledge the existing problems and muster sufficient courage and integrity to deal with them in an appropriate, mature and responsible manner.
Their attempt to cover-up, suppress and ignore vital issues and their stubborn unwillingness to deal with them by remaining silent or by maintaining utopia of "There are no problems”, or thinking ”We are perfect and so are our decisions”, will only lead to a prolonged painful ordeal for everyone.
The followers, on the other hand, have two choices. One is to be misled by this corrupt leadership and suffer the consequences of their own fearfulness and indifference by sharing (karma) a percentage of institutional transgressions. The other choice is to stand up and assert themselves.
The followers that are not being directly affected by the abuse/maltreatment may believe that these are not their problems, and that they themselves are immune to any negative consequence of their ignorance and/or indifference. Sadly this is not true, as everyone involved will suffer the consequences one way or the other, at least to some extent. The onus is on everyone to act in a truthful and noble manner (brahminically) by speaking up against these corrupt individuals/leaders.
Braja Bihari das, among many, is a perfect example of a malignant, parasitic leader, a constituent of ISKCON's shadow administration who, by his very stealthy activities, threatens the true ISKCON host (Srila Prabhupada's body) - and everyone (leaders and followers) lets him get away with his nefarious schemes.
Despite the documented evidence and exposure of the role he played in abetting and protecting the violent abusers in ISKCON, he is not willing to own up to his role in this unpalatable fiasco. He refuses to be held accountable and like a true coward, chooses to hide behind his powerful elite friends (Gopal Bhatta's) and his false claims of naivety.
He claims that all these years, during all the cover-ups that he was involved with, that he was naive about the true nature of the child abusers, which is why he supported them. However this is not the case. For example, we have Dhanurdhara and Gauri dasa, both of whom were directly involved in the very same school during the time Braja Bihari held a senior position. Braja Bihari had either adjudicated or advised on their original cases and was fully aware of the documented evidence of their violence and abuse. So his claims of naivety are smokescreens to cover his crimes and to bewilder/con the blind followers.
He knows full well his guilt, and so do the other elite megalomaniac members of shadow ISKCON. Yet he hides away from being held accountable.
Of course, he waits hiding behind his parasitic buddies and his silence in hopes that the storm will blow over and everything will be forgotten. But not everyone is a blind follower and so many devotees have diagnosed the type of parasite that he is. Hence he will eventually be held accountable for his sins and will be duly punished, as will be his fellow equivocators and the likes of them. Let us not forget that those who deny and try to forget the past are condemned to repeat it!!!
Personally, I have no axe to grind against Braja Bihari dasa or anyone. However, the sanctity and survival of Srila Prabhupada's true ISKCON movement is at stake. All that glitters is not gold!!! Everything is NOT O.K.!!! There are issues to be addressed on many fronts. We hope and pray that the exposure and the eradication of our individual and collective anarthas will ultimately benefit everyone involved, notwithstanding the concomitant embarrassment and discomfiture.

The End of the World on 21st December 2012?

There is a great deal of propaganda afoot that something dramatic will happen in 2012 and maybe the world will end…
We have information from the Vedic scriptures about the nature of this material world. Very extensive information is given about the cycles this world goes through over and over again. It is not that we are in uncharted territory. These cycles repeat, just like every year we have the four seasons. The cycle of the seasons repeats over and over again. Similarly the cycle of the four ages or yugas also repeats over and over again. As we know each of the seasons will last for three months and then the next season will start these four ages or yugas also repeat in a very systematic way.
There are four yugas, Satya-yuga – the golden age, lasting 1,728,000 years; Treta-yuga – the silver age, lasting 1,296,000 years; Dvapara-yuga – the bronze age, lasting 864,000 years; and finally Kali-yuga – the iron age of machines and quarrel, lasting 432,000 years.
We are in the final age, Kali-yuga. So in one sense you could call the end of Kali-yuga the “end of the world.” But actually Kali-yuga is no more the end of the world than winter is the end of the seasons. After the winter there will be another spring. At the end of winter everything looks dead. But with the sunshine of spring everything becomes rejuvenated and new life springs up all over the planet. So at the end of this Kali-yuga everything will be very baron and devastated. However that is just like the end of winter. Just like the end of winter means the beginning of a new spring season, there will be another Satya-yuga or golden age and everything in the universe will be rejuvenated again.
There will be some big devastation at the end of the Kali-yuga. But we have just started the Kali-yuga. This age will last for 432,000 years and so far we have only passed 5,000 years of it. So that means that Kali-yuga still has another 427,000 years to run… So please be assured that the world is not going to end in the year 2012… Believe it or not the world will still be going on in the year 429,000. Around this time the current Kali-yuga will end and there will be some devastation and a renewal which will usher in a new Satya-yuga…
So this claim that the “end of the world” is coming in 2012 is complete nonsense. There is no end to the material world. Although everything here in this world — except the living entities (the spirit souls, the atmas) — including the planet and the universe itself, is ultimately a temporary manifestation. Everything has a time of creation and will have a time of destruction.
However, in the bigger picture, the destruction is not actually a destruction. It is simply an exercise in the conservation of energy. Einstein came up with the proposition that both energy and matter cannot be destroyed. They can only be transformed from one form to another. This is the correct understanding.
There is a time when the universe will be destroyed. The universe will exist for one thousand catur-yuga cycles. That is one thousand cycles of the four ages [Satya-yuga, Treta-yuga, Dvapara-yuga and Kali-yuga]. Each cycle of four yugas takes 4,300,000 years. Therefore the “life” of the universe is 4,300,000,000 years or 4.3 billion years. We have currently passed through approximately half of that time. So the universe is about 2.15 billion years old at the moment. So in another 2.15 billion years the whole material world — not just our universe — the entire material creation of an unlimited number of universes, will all be destroyed.
However, as I mentioned before, this is not actually a “destruction” but a conservation of matter and energy. All the matter which forms the material elements in the universe will be conserved in the “mahat-tattva.” This means the “unmanifested material energy.” The material world has two possible states. Manifest and unmanifest. Currently it is manifest and we are here in the material world. But after the completion of approximately 2.15 billion years there will really be a complete and total devastation of the whole material existence. That is the ultimate “end of the world” that all the doomsday people are waiting for. I think that devastation will satisfy them. At that time the whole material existence will be “destroyed” and will become unmanifested for another one thousand catur-yuga cycles.
This means for 4.3 billion years there will be no manifest material world. Everything will be conserved, the matter will be conserved within the mahat-tattva and the living entities will all enter into the body of Maha Visnu and will exist there in a state of suspension.
Although the whole material creation will be “destroyed” in about 2.15 billion years time, in reality nothing will actually be destroyed. The matter will be conserved in the mahat-tattva and the living entries will simply sleep for 4.3 billion years in the body of Maha-Visnu. This is not liberation for the living entities. They just sleep. And when the 4.3 billion years is finished the material world will become manifest again and all the same living entities will enter it again and again resume their activities where they left off 4.3 billion years ago.
And it will be the same thing again. There will be the same grass, trees, donkeys, horses, elephants, people… The same sort of planets and sun and moon will be constructed, the whole thing will be again constructed in the same way.
It is just like every year it is hot in summer and cold in winter. There are no surprises.
The new material world will be much the same as the old one because the material world is created out of the desires of the living entities. It will be the same living entities entering the “new world” who left this world. So they will bring into the “new world” the same desires they left this world with. So they will simply continue in the “new world” where they left off in this world. After sleeping for 4.3 billion years.
There are also smaller devastations that happen periodically, but these only happen at the end of the catur-yuga cycles, so if the doomsday people really want a date that something may happen on then let them use the date of the end of this Kali-yuga, something around 429,000, something quite dramatic will happen then for sure. To get the exact date you will need to consult an astrologer. Until then this world will go on, and on, and on, and on
It will get worse of course. That is the nature of time. In the end it will be very bad. But it will go on, and on and on. There will be no “end of the world” until some time around 429,000 and that is, as I said, not really the end of the world. That is a time of renewal. A transition from the dark age of Kali to a new golden age of spiritual enlightenment.
The material world will never end. There will always be spirit souls like us who rebel against our natural position of rendering service to God. So Krishna mercifully creates this material playground for us. Here we can try to “play god.” Here we can try to enjoy separately from God. But this world is constructed in such a way that all our attempts to enjoy separately from God will end in frustration.
After many, many, many births in the material world, and many, many frustrated lives of suffering, an intelligent man comes to the conclusion that there is no happiness in the material world and decides to go back home, back to Godhead.
There is another world, a spiritual world. That is the place we are all hankering for. In the spiritual world we have a spiritual body which is eternally youthful, full of knowledge and full of bliss. That is our natural position.
The position we find ourselves in the material world is quite opposite to our natural position in the spiritual world. Here, in the material world, we are stuck in a material body that is getting old, getting sick, and ultimately dying. We are always suffering from three different types of miseries. Our minds are always giving us problems; nature [the demigods] is always giving problems in the form of too much rain or no rain, too hot or too cold, etc. And other living entities like the mosquitoes bite us when we are trying to sleep and our enemies attack us. In this way we are constantly suffering from many different types of miseries.
Therefore here, in the material world, we are full of anxieties, full of ignorance. The root cause of all these problems is we identify with the material body. Because of this bodily identification we think we are temporary. We think that we will die. We think that we are not permanent.
The reality is this material world is not our home. We can never be happy here. We are not in our natural atmosphere. We belong in the spiritual world, we will be happy in that spiritual atmosphere.
The purpose of our existence in this material world is to frustrate our material desires so that ultimately we give up our rebellious nature of trying to enjoy separately from Krishna. When we give up this rebellious attitude and surrender to Krishna we will naturally remember Krishna at the time of death and our soul will be transferred to the spiritual world, back home, back to Godhead.
But the material world will continue, it will go on, and on and on and on forever… There is no end to the material world. The doomsday people will always be wrong. They will always be frustrated. They want it to end but it will never end…
I have just given a very small introduction to this subject. There is complete scientific information about all these topics available in the books of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhuapda.

ISKCON Bangalore vs ISKCON Mumbai: GBC puts road blocks in peace

In this article I am going to give you a rough sketch about ISKCON Bangalore vs ISKCON Mumbai case, backend talks, GBC Meeting discussions and proposed peace agreement between Bangalore group of entities and ISKCON Mumbai.

As we all know about the ongoing case against ISKCON Bangalore vs Mumbai on Hare Krishna hill property. There are few things which are not visible to general public and even people within ISKCON. Let me tell you briefly about some major twist and turns in this case.
As you all know the dispute began with the team of devotees in Bangalore deciding to embrace the rtvik ideology in late 1990s which later distilled into a property dispute with some of the followers of Jayapataka Swami, trying to take over the temple in Bangalore and the Bangalore devotees seeking court intervention and applying. IB filed a suit seeking an injunction of noninterference in its affairs by ISKCON Mumbai. The court battle lasted over a decade and had various twists and turns with the civil court finally ruling in favour of ISKCON Bangalore. ISKCON Mumbai went on appeal and High Court of Karnataka ruled in favour of ISKCON Mumbai. ISKCON Bangalore filed its appeal before the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court expressed its hope that both parties settle their differences and make serious attempts to reconcile and protect the august institution of ISKCON. Based on this a peace proposal is being discussed by both warring parties, lesser known to even people who are closely associated with ISKCON. We got reports from some of our genuine sources about this Peace Proposal with exclusive detail on the contents of the Proposal and Some details on the backend talks between ISKCON Bangalore and ISKCON Mumbai.
Let me give you a brief about the contents of the Peace Proposal as given by the close sources of ISKCON Bangalore and the GBC.

1. All ISKCON Bangalore group of temples & trusts will be integrated with ISKCON Mumbai and there will be one umbrella under which the entire preaching activities will expand in India.
2. The system of initiation for ISKCON Bangalore group of temples will be the rtvik system of initiation.
3. No gurus will be worshiped in ISKCON Bangalore temples other than Srila Prabhupada
4. Both parties will bury all the animosities and work co-operatively.
5. Some of the senior devotees of ISKCON Bangalore will also be made part of the ISKCON Mumbai.
6. Madhu Pandit Dasa and some of the senior leaders in Bangalore temple will not be part of the management on Hare Krishna Hill but will take up in other temples of their group as presidents.

These are the few basic points which I got from my sources in ISKCON Bangalore and Mumbai. These are the broad details, if one goes further micro details of the proposal will only make too technical, but essence is this ISKCON Bangalore group of devotees will be allowed to preach and expand the Krishna conscious movement and they will have the freedom to practice their faith of accepting Srila Prabhupada as their guru but will not be victimized for it. In effect rtvik order will become part of ISKCON at least in India be it in the form of an unwelcome guest.

GBC Meetings

The Strategic Planning midterm meetings for the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) which was held from October 21–26 in Tirupathi, India. This meeting covered almost all points about Committees, Initiatives, Communications, Global Finance and more but what’s not known is that the meetings also covered case of ISKCON Bangalore and a discussion on the new peace proposal.
Discussion on the peace proposal was held during the meeting held on 30th October. It was attended by 28 members including

Bhakti Caitanya Swami (GBC Chairman)
Tamohara Das (First Vice-Chairman)
Anuttama Das (Second Vice-Chairman)
Bhakti Purusottama Swami (GBC Secretary)
Jayapataka Swami (Zonal Acharya of Bangalore)
Sesa Das (Ministry of Justice)
ISKCON Dispute Resolution Committee members
Dayaram das
And others members/ gurus

Sources from Mumbai stated that just over 50% of them voted against the peace proposal, only one voted for and the rest abstained. It seems that basically Ravindra Swarup Dasa and Badarinarayan Dasa opposed this proposal and were not in favor of giving room for rtviks within ISKCON. It is also learnt that some of the people Jai pataka Swami’s and some from Radha Nath swami’s team rejected the peace proposal given by Bangalore group.” The source also stated that “Members from within ISKCON GBC wants this peace proposal to be taken into consideration but some of the Mumbai devotees are not willing to give a chance to ISKCON Bangalore group.” However one of the Bangalore sources said that “The Jai Pataka Swami demanded that he will initiate devotees from Hare Krishna hill and that the devotees need not worship him or place his picture on the altar but will have to accept him as their diksha guru if the proposal were accepted. This proposal however was rejected by ISKCON Bangalore devotees and even some members of the GBC.” Bangalore sources also said that “Mumbai wants to change leader at ISKCON Bangalore particularly the Hare Krishna hill which was accepted by Madhu Pandit das”
International GBC is always hard on any kind of peace proposal given by rtviks and they have proved it again by voting against the proposal.

 ISKCON TRUTH Analysis

1. Voting: when the GBC voted on this issue in 1999, 90% of the votes was against rtvik order, however this time only 50% had voiced their opposition and others abstained (which means that either they were not clear or they were not having the strength to fully oppose the motion to stop the peace proposal.) So there is definite climb down in the GBC body in its stand against the rtvik although the ground realities have not changed much.
2. However ISKCON Mumbai which is independent legal body by itself can agree to not agree with the GBC, whether they will take this hard step only time will tell.
3. If ISKCON Bangalore group wins votes and this peace proposal does go through, then it will be a historic win for ritviks and ISKCON Bangalore will become the first ritvik temple officially recognized within ISKCON, but chances are bleak and court battle looms large.

Bhakti Bhringa Govinda Swami returned to Vrindavan In 1987 and while there established the Food For Life program. He has been an initiating spiritual master since 1992 and in 1993, he received initiation as a sannyasi (renounced order of life). He has over 500 disciples from all over the world.

Bhakti Bringa Govinda Swami is a renowned singer of kirtan and bhajans (devotional songs). He has a group of professional musicians who travel with him all over world, to both entertain and enlighten audiences from all walks of life, and all age groups.

A defining moment in his Krishna consciousness was a conversation he witnessed between Srila Prabhupada and his godbrother Srila Akinchana Krishna Dasa Babaji Maharaja in October 1977.

During that exchange Srila Prabhupada repeatedly quoted Srila Narottama Dasa Thakura: "tandera carana sevi bhakta-sane vasa janame janame haya, ei abhilasa" “This is my desire: that birth after birth I may live with those devotees who serve the lotus feet of the six Goswamis.”

Bhakti Bhringa Govinda Swami felt that Srila Prabhupada was revealing an integral reason for his spreading of Krishna consciousness: his deep spirit of love and service for Krishna’s devotees. Bhakti Bhringa Govinda Swami travels to join devotees in the congregational chanting of Krishna’s names. He is known for his lively chanting and his ability to include all to participate.

At the age of six Gaura Vani left the United States to study sacred music in a gurukula or temple school in the timeless town of Vrindavan, India. He learned ancient prayers in Sanskrit and Bengali and to sing and play ethnic instruments like the harmonium and mrdanga. 25 years later he continues to share the magic he received and performs extensively with his kirtan ensemble, As Kindred Spirits, throughout the world from Europe, Africa and Asia, to the Americas. As Kindred Spirits features the voice and harmonium of Gaura Vani, and the rhythms and melodies of multi-instrumentalist Shyam Kishore, along with a multicultural group of talented musicians, dancers and performers.

Gaura Vani
Jahnavi Harrison was raised in an environment full of kirtan from birth. She began studying Western classical violin as a child, exploring different styles of music, from Irish to Klezmer. In recent years, her studies in South Indian dance (Bharatanatyam) have led her to undertake further study in South Indian Carnatic vocal and violin. She is a kirtan singer, writer, dancer, and a visual artist.

Since 2009 she has been travelling internationally with sacred music bands 'Gaura Vani and As Kindred Spirits' and 'Sita and the Hanumen', and is now based in London where she is trying to start a mantra music revolution with the 'Kirtan London' project.

Case study of Bhakti Vidya Purna Swami

Bhakti Vidya Purna Swami: formerly Anirdhesh Vapu, head of the Mayapur Gurukula

Here is a question I would like to ask: is Bhaktividyapurna Swami, formerly Anirdhesh Vapu head of the Mayapur Gurukula, less guilty than Dhanurdhara? Although there is no conclusive evidence that he has sexually abused any of the children under his care. There is however, plenty of evidence that he was violently beating the boys, in addition he made no significant attempts to expel and punish the many pedophile teachers and monitors that raped the children while he was the principal of the school.
Bhaktividyapurna is notorious for his expertise in lacerating the skin off the back of the children with one single hit of his special bendy bamboo cane. He would get the boys to kneel forward and hold their ankles with their hands, so as to form an arch of some sort with their body. He would then hit the boys on the back, causing the tip of the stick to whip around striking their chest. Many boys recall that he preceded his beatings with a sadistic ritual intended to increase the fear of his victims. He would smile and wiggle his eyebrows gleefully while bending the cane full circle and making whipping sounds with his mouth. Several boys suffered shock after those canings.
The father of a prospective student questioned Bhaktividyapurna Swami about the sexual abuse that was said to be taking place in the Mayapur Gurukula at the time. Bhaktividyapurna Swami gave him what I call the “Kirtanananda stance on sex”. He said something to the effect of, “sex, whether it is between you and your wife, not intended for procreating, or between a teacher and a boy is illicit: It is all sex”. As if morally and karmically they are on the same level. This is from a man whose job is to protect and guide the children.
Why has he not acknowledged his mistakes and offered an apology? If he does not feel he has done anything wrong, I am compelled to question his motives and qualifications. Today Bhaktividyapurna Maharaj is an authorized initiating Guru, Sannyas and still runs his own Gurukula in Mayapur specialized in “training brahmanas.” The GBC decided a fit punishment for his crimes was to temporarily suspend him from directly interacting with the children at his school. Personally I would like to know in what court of law such a punishment will be considered appropriate and just.
In the non-devotee world “karmis” cringe on hearing about child abuse. Yet in our vaisnava community, Gurus and Sannyasis have perpetrated child abuse and condoned it for years and very few ever stood up to say “this is unacceptable.” Why are we so apathetic as a society? What credibility does that give us as a spiritual community? That we have calmly allowed these atrocities to take place?
As aspiring Vaisnavas we must strive to be exemplary gentlemen before we can call ourselves Vaisnavas. We should first reach the level of sattva guna and then work our way up to shudda sattva, there is not enough emphasis in our society to behave like respectable citizens. In fact we have condoned and allowed so many despicable acts to go unpunished that this movement has been a heaven for criminals of every description. As a result some of our “pure devotees” have behaved in ways that no decent and moral “karmi” would ever consider acceptable.
-------------
Again word from Mayapur that false guru, Bhakti Vidya Purna Swami, has fallen down with an underaged minor. If it had occurred in the United States the criminal would be subjected to a prison sentence. But since it has happened in India, and under the protection of the GBC, it is swept under the carpet and forgotten. It's not that people weren't aware of what was going on.

For months people had been seeing Bhakti Vidya Purna Swami going around with this girl, him riding a motorcycle with her sitting on the back, right up next to him, cruising the back roads of Mayapur. Every single resident of Mayapur had seen it, and they all knew, but he was needed to run the gurukula, so they just let it go. I guess they were happy that at least he wasn't a homosexual, like the last three Mayapur Swamis (Bhavananda, Nitai Chand and Satadhanya).

A few months ago some of his disciples had complained to me that he was spending the entire day, from morning till evening, at the all-girls school, "teaching" the girls Bhagavad Gita, just so he could be around this girl. That's a lot of Bhagavad Gita to be teaching these young girls, wouldn't you think? From morning till evening. And then there were the secret rides out into the sunset with the girl on the back of his motorcycle, which everyone was aware of. Most of the people running the school were his disciples, so they couldn't say anything. They just silently went along and said, "Oh well."
The Mayapur management needs him to run one of the last few boys gurukulas left in ISKCON, so I wouldn't expect any push on their part to punish him. The word is it will be called an "accidental falldown", and not need to be disclosed to the public. This way they can keep the whole event internal, just amongst the Mayapur community, without having to really punish him or close the boys gurukula. These "accidental falldowns" seem to be quite common nowadays. Satsvarupa was also involved in an "accidental falldown", whereby he was able to hold onto his fake guru post and fake sannyasa. Till this day Satsvarupa is certified "as good as God" by the GBC. Suhotra Swami is another member of the "accidental falldown" guru club. Coincidently he also lives together with Bhakti Vidya Purna Swami at the Mayapur gurukula. After Suhotra's falldown, he had pledged to rededicate himself to sannyasa vows under the direct personal guidance and supervision of Bhakti Vidya Purna Swami. I guess that wasn't a very good idea, was it?
Suhotra had a special bonus with his accidental falldown, he got a nifty new pada title to add to his name. His actions had actually been so ridiculous that they couldn't cover it up and let him remain a sannyasi, but at the same time they didn't want to say he fell down. So they said he "downgraded himself to vanaprastha." What exactly does it mean when a sannyasi downgrades to vanaprastha? They could have just said he was caught going to prostitutes, but that wouldn't have sounded as advanced. So instead they decided to "downgrade him to vanaprastha". At the same time they wanted to cover up the fall down, so they announced that the GBC had awarded him a new name in recognition of his "severely austere nature". From now on he would be known as Tapovanacari - "the vanaprastha who does severe austerities (tapasya)". Yes, he is now Suhotra Das Tapovanacari - not just regular vanacari, but TAPOvanacari. So the good news for Bhakti Vidya Purna Swami is if he is lucky he may end up with a nifty new pada name like Suhotra got.
What's the lesson for the rest of us small time ISKCON devotees to learn? I really don't know. It's tough to figure out a spiritual moral from this, but maybe it's this:
If you go along with the corrupt GBC, you can remain a guru and sannyasi even if you are engaged in illicit activity. But if you happen to think Srila Prabhupada is the primary spiritual master of all devotees, you are banned, beaten, and thrown out of ISKCON forever. How long will everyone keep pretending things are getting better? When will you realize the GBC is corrupt from top to bottom. Just like they cover the falls of these small time gurus, they are also covering the falls of the bigtime gurus as well. How many disciples really know who their guru actualy is - what type of person is he? You see them for one day a year as they zip by to receive their yearly worship and dakshina from you and your temple. Do you have any idea how your guru lives, what he actually does, or anything at all about him? No. You see him for an hour a year, and you only see the big guru show they put on as they pass through.
It is a fact that the majority of ISKCON gurus no longer live in ISKCON temples, but have private houses where they stay with a few servants to take care of them. It is also a fact that the majority of high profile ISKCON gurus are multi millionaires. Take for example Bhakti Caru Swami, who a couple months ago pledged to donate $1,000,000 USD of his personal money to the GBC to be used for the child abuse court case. Where does someone like Bhakti Caru get $1,000,000? And do you think he is completely giving 100% of his total money? No way. If he is giving one million dollars that means he is sitting on 30 or 40 million dollars. Gaudiya sannyasis are traditionally known as "Tridandi Bhikshu", which literally means "street beggar", and several ISKCON millionaire sannyasis even print this title on their letterheads.
It is time for ISKCON devotees to see that the present gurus are looting Srila Prabhupada's movement of all it's finances. Why are the temples throughout the world struggling to stay open, and struggling to pay the bills? It is because all of the local money is sent off to these rich gurus. They initiate the local devotees, and then suddenly the temple loses it's donation base as the money is sent to millionaire gurus with swiss bank accounts. Money that should be going to build up Srila Prabhupada's temples locally is instead being sent to false Swamis who use it to continue their lives of sense gratification.
NAVADVIPCHANDRA DAS
[PADA: This simply proves that the leaders were supposed to act as agents and not as messsiahs, the "representatives" (ritvik) idea was the right idea all along. I also asked some gurukulis: what about Svarupa's (and Sridhara's) idea that we need to "wait for another living guru," and they said: this guy sounds like the Heaven's Gate cult that was waiting for the space ship. You cannot run a religion based on "waiting" for someone who may come today, or may not ever come for the next 10,000 years, this is all speculation. Agreed. thanks pd]

Women gurus in kali yuga

By: GOVINDA DASI
First let me say I am writing my opinions on this issue only because of repeated emails and postings. Frankly, I had hoped to stay out of it, but since some postings have even taken the liberty of expressing my opinions at a time when there were none, I have decided I must say something. My first response to this issue was, with mild disbelief, “Why would any woman even want to become a guru?!”

“Why would anyone want to take on someone else’s karmas?”

So let me say early on, that I am in no way a contender for any such position, either in this life or the next. Frankly, I personally am much more interested in clearing my own remaining karmas and going back to Godhead than in taking on anyone else’s karmas. Regarding the issue, male vs. female: Such kinds of strong identification and attachment to the temporary male / female bodily identities are a great detriment to spiritual life. Srila Prabhupada taught us that this human life is very short, and so tiny and frail. We can be male today, female tomorrow, male again, female again, or even feline, canine or whatever. He never fostered the intense (and ridiculous) identification with gender that somehow grew up in the later years of Iskcon.

Srila Prabhupada, being a great saintly personality, saw with “equal vision” as so stated in the Gita. Thus he gave equal love, concern, respect, and often responsibilities to both his male and female disciples. Srila Prabhupada clearly saw the soul, and he based his dealings on that level. He wanted his female disciples protected, not exploited. And he wanted his male disciples to take up the yoke of responsibility he placed upon them.

All opinions aside, this is indeed Kali Yuga, and Kali’s world is replete with dozens of Gurus, Smurus, God-chasers, God-wannabes, and magicians posing as gurus.

The fact that charlatans abound is certainly well publicized. Even the high-end uptown swamis and gurus have run off with airline stewardesses and young female disciples. A short online search can produce numerous histories of such infamous gurus. It’s safe to say, “the water has been fouled by the few.”
Thus perhaps the main reason for the increasing clamor for female gurus is the widespread distrust of male power abuse, the patriarchal misuse of power that exists in the world today. After so much deception, power-mongering, and lechery, few spiritual aspirants feel safe in their choice of a male guru. This is across the board–not only in Iskcon, but in numerous other Vedantic societies, yoga margs, shamanic paths, etc.
Certainly, both within Iskcon and without, there are some very sincere and accomplished God brothers who are doing wonderful preaching work, and indeed sacrificing their lives to serve as guru to numerous disciples. I greatly admire those of my dedicated God brothers who travel continuously all over Eastern Europe, India, Asia, and elsewhere, preaching and leading wonderful kirtans wherever they go. They are truly living the sanyas dharma as taught by Srila Prabhupada. They travel continuously, sacrificing their time and energy, and often in spite of advanced age and ill health. They have no private life, or “down time.” This is praiseworthy, and not an easy path to follow. They are fulfilling the role of guru to the best of their ability.

It is undeniable, however, that in Iskcon, as elsewhere, we have seen our share of power politics and also sexual misconduct amongst gurus, GBC’s, and other leaders.

So has the Catholic church. So also has the Protestant revivalist culture. And so have the various Yoga/Hindu/Buddhist traditions as well. Perhaps it is for this reason that many sincere spiritual aspirants find it much easier to entrust their soul to an older woman who has been practicing years of sincere sadhana–(whatever sadhana: Yogic, Buddhist, Hindu, etc)–than to a male guru who may eventually jump into bed with an airline stewardess–or worse–one of his trusting young disciples. In Iskcon as well, older women are more likely to be stable and sense-controlled, and established in their bhakti due to years of humble practice. It is far more likely to see an old gray-haired 60+ year-old male going after a 20-something female than an older woman doing this. So the reason for the clamor is clear.
In fact, in today’s Western culture, often the very term “guru” is enough to bring up automatic associations with “danger” or “scandal.” Out of curiosity, I recently read a book by Dr. Mariana Caplan called “The Guru Question: The Perils and Rewards of Choosing a Spiritual Teacher.” In it she states, “I have spent time with gurus who are living proof that “guru” can be a four-letter word. Nobody has asked me to drink Cyanide-laced Kool-Aid, but I have been offered plenty of other substances. And most of the other types of crimes of power and passion one hears about in relation to purported gurus have been perpetrated upon me and people I know.
“After seventeen years of experience on four continents and ten years of research in the field, I am both personally and professionally all too familiar with the shocking abuses of power that have been committed in the name of spirituality.”
She also notes that, “Within spiritual circles in the United States, the argument can be summed up as follows: the gurus came West in the sixties; we believed in them; we gave them our money, lives, and souls, and they betrayed us with scandals involving money, sex, and power.”
Another important factor is this: Nowadays, the youth in America, and most of the Western world, have grown up (mostly) fatherless. Naturally, they are more inclined to trust and respect and hear from the senior women in their lives. After all, it was their mothers who remained steadfast, often struggling to support the children, while their fathers were either completely absent from home, or worse. Thus many young people simply do not trust male personalities due to their many bad experiences, either at home, in Gurukul, or in public schools or churches. This is a fact of modern life.
This is one reason that it is very likely that lady gurus will flourish in future. Female gurus are already prominent in various other spiritual paths, both in the East and the West. Some say this is because males in modern society have not lived up to the standards of manhood as set forth in the Vedas–and even common practical decency. It is a Kali Yuga fact.

So perhaps we should look at all this from the young bhaktas’ point of view. If they grew up in Iskcon, it was the matajis who fed them, clothed them, and protected them, and the male devotees who beat them, verbally assaulted them, and even sexually abused them.

In mainstream Western society, with its colossal divorce rate, it is the mothers who worked two jobs to feed the kids, send them to school, and counsel them, and who tried to protect them from taking wrong paths. More often than not, the fathers abandoned them, showed little signs of caring, paid little or no child support (unless forced to do so by the courts), and usually found a younger prettier wife as well. Realistically, how does this compare with the Vedic conception of “man’s duty and woman’s duty?”
So as a result of such upbringing, many young aspirants simply do not trust the male figure as a role model in Western society. He has lost his credibility.
In Dr. Caplan’s book, the author explores the horrors of trusting various gurus, and outlines the principle of “conscious discipleship.” Casually translated, this means, “educate yourself and understand the complexity of the student-teacher relationship, examine the teacher carefully, don’t be gullible, exercise spiritual discernment, and be very very cautious when choosing a guru.” Her own horrid experiences often echo ours within Iskcon. It shows there really is a problem, and we need to find a way to address it. We cannot be blind to the issues at hand.
We have to live in the times that we find ourselves placed, and do the best we can to spread Lord Chaitanya’s Sankirtan movement. We have to find a way to do this without getting too hung up or stuck in some temporary male/female, black/white, or green/pink identity. That is the crux of the matter. So the real issue is this: can this concept of female gurus be embraced by our spiritual lineage, and ordained by our line of Acharyas coming from Brahma? That is the important question.
The following quotes from Srila Prabhupada’s letters and conversations seem to verify that it can indeed be supported by the Acharya. “If a woman is perfect in Krsna consciousness … Just like Jahnava devi, Lord Nityananda’s wife, she was acarya. She was acarya. She was controlling the whole Vaisnava community…. It is not that woman cannot be acarya.” (Conversation 6/29/72)
Prof. O’Connell: Is it possible, Swamiji, for a woman to be a guru in the line of disciplic succession?
Prabhupada: Yes. Jahnava-devi was Nityananda’s wife. She became. If she is able to go to the highest perfection of life, why it is not possible to become guru? But, not so many. Actually one who has attained the perfection, she can become guru. But man or woman, unless one has attained the perfection…. Yei krsna-tattva-vetta sei guru haya. The qualification of guru is that he must be fully cognizant of the science of Krsna. Then he or she can become guru. Yei krsna-tattva-vetta, sei guru haya. In our material world is it any prohibition that woman cannot become professor? If she is qualified, she can become professor. What is the wrong there? She must be qualified. That is the position. So similarly, if the woman understands Krsna consciousness perfectly, she can become guru.” (Conversation 6/18/76)
In one of Srila Prabhupada’s letters to his disciple Hamsaduta in 1969, he states, “I want that all of my spiritual sons and daughters will inherit this title of Bhaktivedanta, so that the family transcendental diploma will continue through the generations. Those possessing the title of Bhaktivedanta will be allowed to initiate disciples. Maybe by 1975, all of my disciples will be allowed to initiate and increase the numbers of the generations.”
These statements seem to verify that female guruhood can indeed be supported by both the Acharya and the Disciplic Succession. However, I think the problem here may be the difference between our definition of guru, and Srila Prabhupada’s definition of guru. Srila Prabhupada’s statements seem to center on the spiritual wealth of Krishna Consciousness that he wanted to “continue through the generations” and increase “the numbers of the generations.”
Problems arise when our Iskcon definition of guru becomes more like “little kings” or “feudal lords” competing with one another for disciples, power, money, and fame. Srila Prabhupada’s definition of guru is clearly a spiritual one, one that focuses on teaching and inspiring spiritual aspirants along the path to Godhead.
Heralding an era of female gurus does seem to threaten some of the male disciples. It seems there may be some hesitancy on the part of insecure males due to their own feelings of inner worth, or feelings of insecurity regarding the superiority of their “maleness.” We hope it will be possible to get past this. The important thing is to live in the times that we find ourselves, and try to progress and promote Krishna consciousness however we can. That was always Srila Prabhupada’s perspective. He was always focused on getting the message of Lord Chaitanya out in the world, not on which person did it.
Here is one example of the times that we live in. One young devotee lady, second generation, Tulsi Gabbard, from Hawaii, was just recently elected to the US Congress in Washington D. C. President Obama endorsed and backed her campaign prior to the election. At her January inauguration, Tulsi will be sworn in on Srila Prabhupada’s Bhagavad Gita As It Is, Original Edition, as she publicly declares that she is a Hindu and a vegetarian. This is the kind of preaching work that will open up fields of interest all over the world–what to speak of in America. And from a spiritual perspective, just having people chanting the name “Tulsi” grants benefit. During the campaign, our highways were papered with signs and billboards bearing the words, VOTE TULSI.COM. This, I assure you, would delight Srila Prabhupada!
Folks, I think its time we move into the 21st century. As Srila Prabhupada once told an agitated brahmachary, if it bothers you to be around ladies, you should go to the forest! So my overall opinion is this: female gurus are inevitable. It will happen sooner or later. It is already happening in other spiritual lines; it is only a matter of time before it happens in our line. Perhaps it is just another consideration of Kali Yuga, and just doesn’t line up with our Vedic ideals, but what does? Srila Prabhupada was far more concerned with spreading Krishna Consciousness than sticking to ancient traditions.
He saw the need of the times, and he stepped forward into the 21st century. He initiated his female disciples with Gayatri mantra, encouraged them to perform arotiks and Deity worship, and to manage temples when needed. He saw that girls are educated in the same ways as boys in the Western countries, and instead of trying to suppress that, he encouraged his female disciples to do whatever they excelled in–whether it was art, music, Deity worship, public relations, management, or whatever. It was much later, due to the anti-woman sentiment of a few agitated leaders, that Iskcon became so lop-sided and averse to the spiritual welfare of the women and children.
In 1968, Srila Prabhupada did in fact list two of his female disciples to serve on the original GBC (Yamuna devi, and myself, Govinda dasi) but the opposition by some of his senior men prevented this. (Too bad–it could have saved millions in lawsuits and bad PR from the child abuse cases.) Now, years later, we see that there is at least one senior woman disciple on the GBC, as Srila Prabhupada originally intended.
However, in this guruhood issue, I see the real danger is the dark horse called ambition.
Srila Prabhupada repeatedly stressed that there is no place in spiritual life for personal ambition. So anyone, male or female, who decides to step in line for guruhood, should deeply question his or her inner motives. Is he or she inspired by a genuine desire to serve Srila Prabhupada, and to serve others, or is there some personal ambition lurking beneath the layers? Is he or she inspired by the desire for: Fame? Money? Adoration? Security? He or she must answer confidently, that he/she is not deceiving his/herself, but can actually uplift lost souls and place them at the lotus feet of the Lord. He or she must also be able take on the disciples’ past karmas, and purify them without losing his or her own purity. This is the real test.
Not some “rubber stamp guru approval.” That hasn’t worked in the past, and it won’t work in the future.
I myself am very “old-school.” I still believe in the old-fashioned philosophy that Srila Prabhupada taught us, and that his Guru Maharaj taught him: That is: “Don’t anyone try to become guru prematurely, just go on with your service. Whoever is meant to become guru will come out automatically in time.” And that already is happening; many have come, and many have gone.
There are teachers, there are guides, and there are various types of gurus. There is a vast difference between such teachers, guides, and gurus–and the Acharya, like Srila Prabhupada. There is no harm in teaching and guiding others; but there can be great harm done if one accepts disciples prematurely, harm both to the “fallen guru” and to the disciples. This is the great danger.
If there is a need to fulfill, that is, people want diksha so they feel they “belong” to the “club” or the institution, we must be very clear on what type of guru is giving that kind of diksha. And by all means, we should not place so much importance on any Iskcon guru who seems to eclipse the importance of Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada is the Master Guru of us all. We are like small moons orbiting around the sun of Srila Prabhupada; he is giving us the spiritual light and we are reflecting that light into the world. We must always remember from where our light is coming, and pray to Krishna to always remain humble in his presence.
All this, and more, is why, my initial reaction remains, “Who,  in their right mind, would want to take up the role of diksha guru?”
